The area around Çıldır Lake, which has an area of 123 square kilometers located on the Kars-Ardahan border, has been infested with flies. The increase in clusters of flies, which the local people refer to as 'green flies', is noteworthy during this season every year.
DRIVERS CAN'T SEE AHEAD
The increase in mosquito density, which varies at different times of the day, is causing difficult moments for drivers passing through the region. The windshields, headlights, and engine parts of vehicles are covered with mosquitoes, significantly reducing the visibility for drivers. The sudden decrease in visibility especially jeopardizes driving safety during the evening hours.
SAME SCENERY FOR 5 KILOMETERS
Vehicle driver Saner Çağrı Genç, who stated that he encountered the same scenery for about 5 kilometers along the lakeshore, said, "While we were traveling to Georgia, we encountered a swarm of flies. From the flies landing on the car's window, we understand that this is their mating season. It's really a different sight and a bit frightening. The sound of the flies I heard is quite different, and it was a unique experience for us."
