New developments have emerged regarding the fire in which firefighter Turgay Gezgin's wife and two children lost their lives. The nurse with whom Gezgin had a relationship before his wife’s death has been taken into custody in connection with the fire. In his statement, Gezgin mentioned that he was not at home during the fire, and his fiancée, F.T., stated that Gezgin had repeatedly told her that he did not love his wife. While the firefighter has been arrested, the nurse he was engaged to has been released.

A fire broke out in the home of Turgay Gezgin, an employee of the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Nazilli Fire Station, located on the 2nd floor of the apartment at 372 Sokak, Yeşil Mahalle, Nazilli district of Aydın, in the early hours of the morning on March 18. Firefighters, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the address upon notification from the surrounding residents.
MOTHER AND 2 CHILDREN DIED IN THE FIRE
With the intervention of the teams, the fire was extinguished. During the investigation in the house, it was determined that Gezgin's wife, Fatma Gezgin, and their children, Deniz (11) and Toprak Gezgin (4), had lost their lives.
WIFE FAINTED UPON HEARING THE NEWS
Turgay Gezgin, a firefighter who returned from a night shift and learned that his wife and 2 children had died in the fire, fainted. After the first intervention, Gezgin was taken to Nazilli State Hospital by ambulance. Fatma Gezgin and her 2 children were buried in Eğriboyun Cemetery after autopsy procedures.
ARRESTED WITH NURSE HE WAS IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH
As a result of approximately two months of technical and physical surveillance by the Public Order Bureau teams, Turgay Ahmet Gezgin, identified as a suspect in the fire, and a person named F.T., with whom he had a relationship, were taken into custody during an operation conducted around 03:00 on May 13, 2025.
FIREFIGHTER FATHER ARRESTED, FIANCEE RELEASED
Turgay Gezgin, the firefighter taken into custody as part of the investigation into the fire, was arrested on charges of arson at the courthouse he was brought to. His fiancée, F.T., was released under judicial control.

Meanwhile, Turgay Gezgin's statement in court has also emerged. In his statement, Gezgin said that on the night the fire broke out, he went home saying to his friends via a phone application, 'There is a smell of natural gas coming from the apartment I live in,' and that he knocked on the door because he lost his key, but after the door did not open, he returned to his friends at the fire station to have sahur. His fiancée, nurse F.T., denied the allegations. F.T. stated that a few days before the incident, Turgay Gezgin had repeatedly told her that he did not love his wife and that he would fix their relationship. It was also learned that Turgay Gezgin and F.T. had been in a romantic relationship for about a year.
