It was reported that among the 11 people detained in relation to the general boycott on April 2, in which actor Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu was also taken into custody, content creator and psychiatrist Dr. Muhammet Enes Özel was included. It was stated that Özel was detained from his home last night.
In the boycott investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, arrest warrants were issued for 16 individuals. Security teams from the Istanbul Police Department detained 11 suspects this morning in the boycott investigation launched on charges of incitement to hatred and discrimination, including Bekir A. (26), Yeliz A. (24), Mehmet E.C. (50), Berna G.K. (50), Ömer Ç. (38), Şenay A. (43), Aslı Y. (37), Ceren Ö. (25), Damla K. (41), Muhammet Enes Özel (34), and actor Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu (31). The suspects, who were detained by the police teams, were taken to the Vatan Campus in Fatih. While the procedures for the suspects at the police station continue, the search for 5 individuals is ongoing.
THE FAMOUS DOCTOR IS ALSO IN CUSTODY
It has been learned that among the 11 people detained is content creator and psychiatrist Dr. Muhammet Enes Özel, who has 180,000 followers on Instagram. Özel's lawyer, Gülşen Başarır, announced the detention news via social media. Başarır stated that her client is concerned about not being able to hold sessions with his patients.
THE DOCTOR'S REQUEST WHILE IN CUSTODY
Başarır shared the following:
"Enes was detained from his home last night due to boycott posts. As his lawyer, I accompanied him, and he will be brought to court today. He is quite well, but the only thing he is thinking about is his patients. He asked me to announce and spread that he will not be able to hold his sessions due to not being able to reach them."
The Istanbul Medical Chamber also made a statement on its social media account regarding the detention of Dr. Enes Özel. The statement noted that a boycott post made in a humorous manner was cited as the reason for the detention and included the following remarks:
"Our colleague Dr. Enes Özel was detained from his home last night. The reason is the claim that there is a criminal element in the boycott posts he made in a humorous manner. Respect freedom of thought and expression. Immediately release Enes Özel."
