In the case regarding the Narin murder in Diyarbakır, the appeal petitions concerning the prison sentences given to the defendants have been sent to the Regional Court of Appeals. While this development is taking place in the case, Nevzat Bahtiyar's lawyer, Ali Eryılmaz, made an allegation stating, "Arif Güran wants his son Enes to take the blame, while his wife Yüksel and brother Salim are to escape from this murder and be released."

The investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the murder of Narin Güran, who went missing in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the central Bağlar district on August 21, 2024, and whose lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8, 2024, has been completed.

In the decision hearing on December 28, 2024, at the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court, the detained defendants, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, were each sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional murder of a child in participation," while Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence." The reasoned decision, consisting of 944 pages, was announced on January 23.

WORK ON THE APPEAL APPLICATION HAS BEEN COMPLETED

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed the work on the appeal application petitions sent to the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeal by the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Diyarbakır Bar Association as "participants," and by father Arif Güran and the defendants' lawyers as "complainants," regarding the trial conducted at the 8th High Criminal Court.

The court sent the case file consisting of 17 folders along with the appeal application petitions to the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeal for evaluation.

NEVZAT BAHTİYAR REQUESTED HIS RELEASE

The lawyers of detained defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar also requested in their appeal applications that the appeals made against their client be rejected on the merits, that the 4 years and 6 months prison sentence given by the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court be lifted in favor of their client, and that a decision be made for his release.

APPLICATION FOR BAHTİYAR FROM THE MINISTRY AND THE GÜRAN FAMILY

The Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and the Diyarbakır Bar Association made an appeal to the Regional Court regarding the 4 years and 6 months prison sentence given to Nevzat Bahtiyar for "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence," and in the submitted petitions, it was requested that the defendant be punished for "intentional murder of a child in participation."

The lawyer of Arif Güran, father of Narin Güran, also requested the annulment of the 4 years and 6 months prison sentence imposed on defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar for "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence," and requested that the defendant be punished for "intentional murder of a child in participation" under Article 82/1-e of the Turkish Penal Code.

The lawyer of uncle Salim Güran requested that defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar be punished separately for "intentional murder of a child, sexual abuse of a child, and threatening freedom."

MOTHER, BROTHER, AND UNCLE REQUESTED ACQUITTAL

The lawyers of the defendants, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, requested that the ruling under which their clients were convicted of "intentional murder of a child in participation" be overturned, and that a decision for their release and acquittal be made.

WHO RECEIVED HOW MUCH PUNISHMENT?

In the Narin Güran murder case, the court panel, in its unanimous decision during the hearing on December 28, 2024, sentenced the detained defendants mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional murder of a child in participation," and also sentenced Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to hiding Narin's lifeless body in the Eğertutmaz Stream, to 4 years and 6 months in prison for "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence," and ruled that their detention status would continue.

The indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the detained suspects Birsen, Fuat, Maşallah Güran, and Mehmet Selim Atasoy, who is an employee of Salim Güran, along with Mehmet Şevket Kaya and Muhammed Kaya, as well as the non-detained suspects Şeyma Kaya, Hediye, İbrahim Halil, Barış, Kurtuluş, and Ömer Faruk Güran, was submitted to the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance, while the indictment prepared for the juvenile suspects R.A. (16), M.G. (16), and İ.K. (17) was submitted to the 2nd Juvenile Court the day before.

In the indictments, a prison sentence of 6 months to 5 years was requested for 15 suspects, 6 of whom are detained and 3 are minors, for the crime of "harboring a criminal."

Additionally, a decision was made for the release of detained suspects Hediye Güran and 16-year-old R.A., who is an employee of uncle Salim Güran.

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office decided that there was no need for prosecution regarding some crimes for 31 suspects within the scope of the ongoing investigation.
