STARTED WITH 10 PEOPLE, REACHED 1,000
The charity grocery store located in the premises of Akşemsettin Mosque in the Selçuklu neighborhood of Sivas creates a strong example of solidarity and cooperation in the neighborhood. Initially supporting only 10 people in need, the grocery store grew over time with the increasing contributions of philanthropists.
Today, approximately 1,000 people benefit from the charity grocery store, which has basic food products such as legumes, flour, oil, and sugar, as well as cleaning and hygiene materials on its shelves, free of charge. Those in need can meet their basic needs by taking the necessary products without paying any fee.
This solidarity system established in the neighborhood not only provides material support but also contributes to the strengthening of the culture of sharing and helping one another. Thanks to the continuously renewed shelves with donations from philanthropists, regular support is provided to those in need.
"HERE, PRAYERS NOT MONEY COUNT"
Ahmet Uslu, one of the volunteers of the charity grocery store, emphasized the importance of solidarity, stating that the aid increases especially during the month of Ramadan. Uslu said, "With the blessed month of Ramadan, aid reaches its peak at the charity grocery store. We try to do our best. There is nothing more beautiful than helping an orphan or someone in need. We have very valuable friends who help, but they don't even mention their names. It is very valuable to have such people in society," he said.
Uslu expressed that the aid provided from the charity grocery store holds great significance for those in need, stating, "This way, we distribute food to the public. Everyone thanks us, and we become a means for that. Here, prayers not money count. We also receive the rewards of these prayers," he said.
