Images of large cattle being kept in mud to gain weight before the Eid al-Adha in Çorum have sparked reactions, while the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has initiated an investigation into the business and imposed a penalty.
Two months before the Eid al-Adha, images of a business in Çorum that leaves large livestock in the mud and restricts their movements to help them gain weight drew reactions on social media. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry made a statement regarding the images.
AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN INITIATED
In a statement made from the Ministry's social media account, it was noted that an investigation has been initiated regarding the images containing behaviors contrary to animal welfare.
PENALTIES IMPOSED
In the statement, it was said, "An immediate investigation has been initiated by our Ministry regarding the images shared on social media that clearly contain behaviors contrary to animal welfare. After it was determined that the business depicted in the images is located in Çorum, necessary inspections were carried out by our Çorum Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry; an administrative fine has been imposed on the business in accordance with the relevant legislation."
NEGLECT AND MISTREATMENT ARE UNACCEPTABLE
"Additionally, necessary interventions have been made to eliminate the conditions that negatively affect the health and welfare of the animals in the business, and the care areas have been cleaned and arranged to ensure that the animals are housed under appropriate conditions. Any neglect and mistreatment towards the health and welfare of the animals is absolutely unacceptable. No person or business that violates this principle will be tolerated. As a Ministry, we will continue our inspections decisively to protect animal welfare across the country."
