In January, Turkey's automotive production decreased by 3% compared to the same period last year, falling to 105,397 units. In the first month of the year, the total market experienced a decline of 15% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching a level of 70,412 units.
The automotive production of Turkey decreased by 3% compared to the same period last year, falling to 105,397 units in January.
The Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the production, export, and market data for January. Accordingly, total automotive production last month was 105,397 units, a decrease of 3% compared to the same period in 2024. While automobile production increased by 1% to 67,795, total production including tractor production reached 108,021 units.
VEHICLE PRODUCTION DECREASED IN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS
In the first month of the year, commercial vehicle production decreased by 9%. Production in the heavy commercial vehicle group fell by 51%, while the light commercial vehicle group saw a decrease of 3%. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 58%. The capacity utilization rates by vehicle group were 60% for light vehicles (automobiles + light commercial vehicles), 23% for trucks, 43% for buses-midibuses, and 42% for tractors.
JANUARY AUTOMOTIVE EXPORTS REACHED 2.95 BILLION DOLLARS
In January, automotive exports increased by 4% in terms of units compared to the same period last year, reaching 78,191. During this period, automobile exports rose by 7%, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 1%. Tractor exports, on the other hand, fell by 54% to 739 units. The automotive industry's exports maintained their top position in the sectoral export ranking with a 16% share in January. Last month, total automotive exports increased by 5% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 2.95 billion dollars. In euro terms, it grew by 5% to 2.7 billion euros. During this period, the main industry exports increased by 2.8% in dollar terms, while the supply industry exports rose by 7.4%.
CAR AND COMMERCIAL VEHICLE SALES DECREASED
In the first month of the year, the total market decreased by 15% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 70,412 units. During this period, the automobile market shrank by 13% to 55,944 units. The market contracted by 22% for total commercial vehicles, 38% for heavy commercial vehicles, and 19% for light commercial vehicles. Last month, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 33%, while it was 25% in the light commercial vehicle market.
