The Turkish defense industry companies, led by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), continue to make waves.
Turkish defense industry companies are also showcasing their capabilities at the IDEX 2025 fair, held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, which is considered one of the most important organizations in the global defense industry. Gürcan Okumuş, General Manager of ASSAN Group, one of the first companies that come to mind when it comes to mass production of critical munitions in Turkey, announced an important development at the fair.
"OUR FOCUS IS TO STRENGTHEN MASS PRODUCTION"
Speaking to TRT News, Okumuş emphasized the company's long-standing experience in various fields, stating that their current focus is on 'strengthening mass production'. He mentioned that they have improved their existing infrastructures and are taking steps for new production lines, stating that they are gearing up for production in different parts of the world.
"WE WILL ESTABLISH A PRODUCTION LINE IN THE UAE"
Pointing out that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is currently the country they export the most to, Okumuş said, "We are also working intensively with our brother country Azerbaijan. Additionally, we are establishing a production line in the Nakhchivan region. We intend to increase our capacity a bit more in Africa. We will also set up a production line in the United Arab Emirates. We have exports to different countries as well."
"WE WILL SELL AIR MUNITIONS TO SOUTH KOREA"
Gürcan Okumuş shared that they are about to sign a contract with South Korea, stating, "In recent years, South Korea has become one of the most important military exporters in the world... They have reached a very serious volume. They sell to the world, and we will sell to them. We can say that we have agreed on a tender related to the MK series aircraft bombs. We expect the contract to be signed soon."
"WE ARE WORKING ON A HYBRID ENGINE"
Okumuş noted that Assan Group is also working on a hybrid engine and concluded his remarks as follows:
"We can maintain the transmissions of the M60-T and Leopard tanks used by our army. We have a significant capability here. Now, with some investment, we will take this to a different level.
The most important trend in the world in recent years is the use of hybrid engines. We are developing a project with our own resources. Our goal is to produce a hybrid power unit with approximately 1000 horsepower and showcase its first prototype at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2025) to be held in our country.
The hybrid engine we mentioned can be used in storm howitzers and similar systems. It will be a game-changing project, and we aim to complete operational tests within this year.
