In Antalya's Gazipaşa district, a house that was ordered to be demolished due to its proximity to the forest boundary was moved 150 meters using a rail system. The owner of the house, Hasan Karateke, said, "If it had been demolished, I would have incurred a cost of 1.5 million, but we moved it for 250 thousand TL. I am 1 million 250 thousand in profit."
"NOW OUR HOUSE IS IN ITS NEW PLACE, SOLID AS A ROCK"
Karateke stated that the moving process took three days, saying, "We placed iron rails underneath and supported it with electric poles. The poles broke, the ropes snapped, but we didn't give up. We completed the last 30 meters as well. Now our house is in its new place, solid as a rock," he said.
"INSTEAD OF DEMOLISHING, WE PRODUCED"
Emphasizing that the cost of rebuilding the house is 1.5 million TL, Karateke said, "We moved this house for 250 thousand TL. We avoided loss and did not harm the environment. We moved it to our titled land. We did not infringe on anyone's rights. I think we are in profit."
"THE DONKEY WASPS AND HOT WEATHER WERE CHALLENGING"
Karateke pointed out that the biggest challenges during the moving process were the hot weather and donkey wasps, saying, "One bee stung my ear, and another stung my finger. They had made a nest inside the excavator."
"THIS WORK IS THE RESULT OF A YEAR OF PREPARATION"
Stating that he has been planning the project for a year, Karateke thanked the resource master Musa İnci and his cousin Caner, saying, "This was a team effort. Their contribution was significant."
"THERE ARE OTHER FAMILIES TOO"
Karateke stated that hundreds of families in the region are experiencing similar grievances, saying, "My father has been cultivating these lands since 1960. The lands that have been farmed for years are now declared 'forest.' We are waiting for a solution from the authorities."
"WE GOT THROUGH THE HARD PART, NOW WE ARE ORGANIZING THE GARDEN"
Karateke expressed that they have started organizing the garden after the moving process, saying, "We got through the hardest part, and everything will be in its place in a few weeks."
