In the Cide district of Kastamonu, the sea swelled for 10 minutes in the port area, followed by a popping sound and a foul odor spreading, causing panic among fishermen. Cide Fisheries Cooperative President Kazım Yılmaz said in a statement, "This happens from time to time. It occurs once a year or once every two years. It usually happens in summer. The dirt from the stream accumulates in the port, causing a whirlpool and gas buildup. When this gas compresses and bursts, it rises like an island on the sea."

In the Cide district of Kastamonu, the sea swelled for 10 minutes, causing panic among citizens fishing. Upon citizens' reports, Coast Guard Command teams arrived at the scene and conducted investigations.

THE SEA SUDDENLY SWELLED

Citizens fishing in the port area of Kastamonu's Cide district noticed the sea suddenly swelling upward about 15 meters offshore and a small whirlpool forming instantly. Then, a foul smell began to spread from the sea, which swelled in an explosion-like manner. During the incident, citizens fishing in the area experienced great panic. Upon reports from citizens, Coast Guard Command teams were dispatched to the area. After conducting investigations, the teams left the region.

"IT EXPLODED LIKE A BOMB"

Fikret Gül, who was fishing during the incident, said, "The sea surface swelled all of a sudden, then the swelling pulled downward. After that, it pushed upward once more. Then it exploded like a bomb. This happened around 4:00 PM. It lasted about 10 minutes."

"IT WAS LIKE DIRT, IT SMELLED BAD"

Ahmet Yıldız, who stated he had never encountered such a situation before, said, "The sea surface swelled first. Then it pulled the swelling inward and released it upward again. It was like dirt, it smelled bad. I've been coming here for years, but I've never seen anything like this; it's the first time."

"IT LASTED ABOUT 10 MINUTES"

Erdi Gökağaç, who recorded the swelling in the sea with his mobile phone, said, "Around 4:00 PM, it was as if a pitch-black swelling suddenly sprang up from the bottom of the sea. It lasted about 10 minutes. Then, toward the shore, the swelling disappeared."

"IT DIDN'T SEEM LIKE A NORMAL EVENT"

A citizen named İbrahim Yiğit said, "Around 7:00 PM, about 25 meters ahead of the port, what we estimate to be trapped waste burst out from under the sea. It was quite large, and we want authorities to investigate it. Because everyone here goes into the sea. It didn't seem like a normal event. The Coast Guard Command came, did some research, and then left. We also gave them the videos we had."

"IT USUALLY HAPPENS IN THE SUMMER"

Kazım Yılmaz, President of the Cide Fisheries Cooperative, stated that the situation is a natural event, saying, "This event happens occasionally. It occurs once a year or once every two years. It usually happens in the summer. Waste from the stream accumulates in the port. An eddy and gas form. When this gas gets compressed and explodes, it rises to the sea surface like an island. It's caused by waste coming from the mountains or dumped into the stream during rainy weather. Actually, it's not a bad thing at all. This is a natural phenomenon that happens from time to time. Gas gets trapped at the bottom of the sea, and this trapped gas explodes. Especially when a storm is coming, waters swirl in the breakwater. It collects whatever is at the bottom of the sea and brings it to the surface. This is a situation that occasionally occurs in these ports."
