After the threat of 'assassination' against Iran's religious leader Khamenei in the Iran-Israel war, the Tehran administration is deploying its new weapon. It is claimed that Iran could activate its Khorramshahr missile in response to Netanyahu's statements. The advanced ballistic missile, which carries a warhead weighing 1,800 kilograms, has a range extending from Iran to the Black Sea.
The escalating tension following Israel's attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities and missile bases on June 13 has entered its fifth day, with Iran responding with ballistic and hypersonic missiles. Iran targeted Israeli cities including Tel Aviv, Haifa, Kiryat Gat, and Petah Tikva with missiles. Israel retaliated by striking major cities in Iran such as Tehran, Tabriz, Kermanshah, and Isfahan.
THE TOLL IS HEAVY
While the Chief of Staff of Iran, the Commander of the Revolutionary Guards, and several senior commanders, along with 9 nuclear scientists, were killed in the attacks, the total civilian casualties have been reported as 224. In Iran's retaliation against Israel with ballistic missiles, it was reported that 24 people were killed and over 500 were injured. Many countries, especially Turkey, condemned Israel.
IRON DOME HAS BEEN PENETRATED
Israeli military officials admitted that the Iron Dome air defense system is not flawless in the face of intense attacks from Iran. According to a report by the New York Times, some analyses reveal that Iran possesses approximately 2,000 ballistic missiles. This number indicates that if the conflict prolongs, Tehran may continue its retaliations against Israel.
Experts warned that despite the advanced technology of the Iron Dome, it may face ammunition shortages due to the high cost of defense missiles. Military analysts emphasized that the system has been able to intercept approximately 60% of Iranian missiles so far, but if the intensity of attacks increases, the ammunition may become insufficient.
ADVANCED MISSILES HAVE NOT YET BEEN USED
While Iran primarily used ballistic missiles in the conflicts, it also announced that it has deployed a limited number of hypersonic missiles. These missiles can reach speeds of 6,125 kilometers per hour and above, and it has been reported that they create a powerful shockwave upon hitting their targets. Military experts pointed out that Iran has so far used its advanced missile systems to a limited extent. Missiles with older technology are primarily aimed at wearing down Israel's defense system.
IRAN HAS NOT YET DEPLOYED ITS STRONGEST WEAPON
One of Iran's most strategic weapons, the Khorramshahr (also known as Khyber) ballistic missile, which has not yet been activated, is noteworthy. This advanced missile, which is 13 meters long, has a range of 2,000 kilometers, capable of hitting distances from the Iranian mainland to Romania. According to experts, if this missile is activated, it could significantly disrupt regional balances.
