Irem Derici's DJ fiance Melih Kunukcu was arrested in the illegal betting investigation centered in Gaziantep. Kunukcu's lawyer Abide Gulel Saral made significant statements regarding the scope of the charges against her client.
Singer İrem Derici's DJ fiancé İsmail Melih Kunukçu was among the names arrested as part of a comprehensive illegal betting investigation conducted by the Gaziantep Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Kunukçu's lawyer, Abide Gülel Saral, announced that her client was arrested along with 311 people as part of the investigation.
ALLEGATION LIMITED ONLY TO PLACING BETS
Lawyer Saral stated that the investigation file contains claims regarding acts of different natures, emphasizing that Kunukçu's situation should be distinguished from other accusations.
Saral said the allegation against her client is solely the act of “placing bets.” She noted that there are no accusations against Kunukçu regarding organizing illegal betting, running betting operations, or providing bank accounts or IBANs within these activities.
Saral, stating that Kunukçu voluntarily applied to judicial authorities to give his statement, said her client acted transparently with the authorities from the beginning of the investigation.
Noting that the investigation is ongoing, the lawyer stated they expect the indictment to be prepared after the judicial recess ends. Saral expressed their belief that during the judicial process, it will become clear that the allegation against Kunukçu is limited solely to the act of placing bets.
SHOULD NOT BE ASSOCIATED WITH MORE SERIOUS CLAIMS
Lawyer Abide Gülel Saral emphasized that her client should not be associated with the different and more serious claims within the investigation.
Drawing attention to the presumption of innocence and the right not to be stigmatized, Saral stated they respect the ongoing investigation and judicial process.
Saral expressed their belief that the matter will be fully clarified during the trial process.
