The Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, gave the first signal regarding the removal of the one-week mid-term breaks that are implemented twice during the school year. Stating that there has been intense demand from parents, Minister Tekin said, "Working mothers and fathers are facing difficulties. After the break, children do not want to go back to school. Our teachers say that the adaptation of the child to school becomes difficult. We have been analyzing this issue for two years. We will do it again this year. After that, we will evaluate."
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin made statements to journalists following his visit to Mardin. Tekin signaled that the one-week mid-term breaks, which have been implemented twice during the academic year since 2019, will be abolished.
"WORKING PARENTS ARE FACING ISSUES"
Stating that they have received requests from parents regarding the abolition of the mid-term break, Tekin said, "Working parents are facing issues. Children do not want to go back to school after the break. Our teachers say that the adaptation of the child to school is difficult. We have been analyzing this issue for two years. We will do it again this year. After that, we will evaluate." he stated.
REGISTRATION SYSTEM IN SCHOOLS
Tekin indicated that the registration system for schools will change, saying, "Last year, we made a regulation regarding class and teacher selection and determined them from the center. Now we are taking the second step. Our ministry is developing a joint software with the Ministry of Interior. Parents who have the right to register their child to a school based on their address will be able to register their child at that school. We will centrally prevent the registration of additional students from outside the address to that school. Thus, we will also relieve our school principals of the pressure regarding such requests." he said.
REDUCTION OF EDUCATION DURATION
Tekin stated that the shortening of the education duration in high schools is being discussed and that there is no need to rush. Tekin said, "The process regarding improvements or regulations related to the compulsory education duration has not been shelved, but since every step to be taken in this direction will closely affect the education system, it is necessary to analyze the pros and cons in detail, make preparations, and take some precautions. We do not make any changes without taking precautions and making preparations. We have not announced any model, but the 4+4+3+1 or 4+4+2+2 models are being discussed in the public. When these preparations are completed in a few years, the issue will be discussed with stakeholders, consulted, and then a decision can be made. This is not a matter to be rushed at the moment." he explained.
