Some media outlets have claimed that "the university system is changing," causing public outrage. While this development has garnered significant attention, the Higher Education Council (YÖK) denied the claims in a statement, asserting that there is no such work being conducted. "THERE IS NO SUCH WORK"In a written statement from YÖK, it was stated, "The news published today in some media outlets claiming 'the university system is changing' does not reflect the truth. There is no such work being carried out by our Council. In the presentation made by our Council at the Presidency last week, topics such as our higher education life, access capacity to universities, academic productivity, scientific research funds, the ongoing specialization program, internationalization, quality, and accreditation were discussed. Additionally, a comprehensive presentation was made by the Council President and members regarding the changes that will affect higher education in the world and our country in the next 30 years, as well as the preparations and projects for the future vision of the Higher Education Council. These efforts were well received by the participants. It was decided that the highly productive meeting would continue in the coming days," the statement included. "DO NOT BELIEVE NEWS AIMED AT DIScrediting YÖK"In the presentation attended by YÖK President Erol Özvar and members of the Executive Board, it was emphasized that there were no topics related to changes in the university system, stating, "We expect that this news, aimed at discrediting YÖK and misleading the public, should not be taken seriously, and we hope that media outlets will act more responsibly." WHAT HAD HAPPENED?It was claimed that the university system in Turkey was preparing for a profound change with a single-field education model. In a large-scale meeting held at the Presidency, it was alleged that a new action plan was put on the table for universities to specialize in certain fields and become brands in those areas. It was stated that if this change were to be implemented, education in different fields such as health, engineering, and social sciences could not be provided within the same university.
