Istanbul Deputy Nimet Özdemir, who resigned from CHP a week ago, joined AK Party. President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pinned the party badge on Özdemir after his statements at the group meeting.
Istanbul Deputy Nimet Özdemir, who resigned from the İYİ Party in 2024 and from the CHP on June 17, 2026, has found a new home in the AK Party.
As part of Nimet Özdemir's joining the AK Party, the badge was personally pinned by President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Breaking his silence at the AK Party TBMM Group Meeting, which also included Haberler.com Ankara Representative Şerife Güzel, Özdemir said regarding his headline-making transfer: "I am the same Nimet, nothing has changed. I will continue with the same mission."
AK PARTY'S NUMBER OF DEPUTIES RISES TO 277
With Özdemir's participation, the AK Party's seat count in the TBMM rose to 277.
WHO IS NİMET ÖZDEMİR?
Nimet Özdemir was born in 1970 in the Develi district of Kayseri. After completing his primary, secondary, and high school education in Ankara, he earned a bachelor's degree from the Political Science program at Conley University. In his professional life, he operated as an entrepreneur in the construction and tower crane rental sectors and was a co-founder of various companies.
Özdemir began his political career in the İYİ Party in 2017, assumed various roles within the party, and entered the Turkish Grand National Assembly as an Istanbul Deputy in the 2023 General Elections. In the TBMM, he served as a member of the European Union Harmonization Commission, the Turkey-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission, and the Environment Commission. He joined the CHP in 2024 and resigned from the party on June 17, 2026.
Fluent in English, Özdemir is the mother of one child.
