The Istanbul Governorship announced that it has filed a criminal complaint regarding illegal banners and flags during today's Nowruz celebrations. In the statement, the governorship said, "Our security forces have initiated legal proceedings against 28 individuals who chanted illegal slogans and displayed banners, and a criminal complaint has been filed against the members of the organizing committee with the judicial authorities."
The Istanbul Governorship issued a written statement regarding the Nevruz rally held at Yenikapı Square. In the statement, the governorship provided information about the events that occurred during the rally.
LEGAL ACTION INITIATED AGAINST 28 PEOPLE
The governorship announced that legal action has been initiated against 28 individuals who chanted illegal slogans and displayed banners during the rally; it also stated that a criminal complaint has been filed against the members of the organizing committee with the judicial authorities.
The statement made is as follows: "With the application made to our Governorship by the Organizing Committee on 05.03.2025, a request for permission to hold a Nevruz celebration at the Yenikapı Event Area on 23.03.2025 was submitted.
As a result of the evaluations made by our relevant units; permission was granted on the condition that the relevant legislation is complied with, no stands or tents are set up in the event area and its surroundings, and no magazine or publication exhibition is held.
During the event held on Sunday, 23.03.2025, it was determined that visuals containing criminal content were published, slogans with criminal elements were chanted, and posters and banners were displayed, and necessary warnings were made to the organizing committee.
Despite the warnings made, the necessary measures under the responsibility of the organizing committee were not taken.
Legal action has been initiated against 28 individuals who chanted illegal slogans and displayed banners by our security forces, and a criminal complaint has been filed against the members of the organizing committee with the judicial authorities.
Additionally, efforts to identify and apprehend individuals engaging in illegal activities in the event area in violation of Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations are ongoing."
