The US-based data company Inrix has published a striking report. According to Inrix's 2024 Global Traffic Scorecard, Istanbul will have no rivals in traffic in 2024. ISTANBUL TAKES THE LEAD IN TRAFFICAccording to the report, the megacity was chosen as the most congested city in the world, with drivers losing an average of 105 hours in traffic throughout the year. The report also noted that the time loss for Istanbul residents in traffic increased by 15% compared to 2023. NEW YORK AND CHICAGO FOLLOW ISTANBULFollowing Istanbul, New York City and Chicago shared the second place globally in traffic congestion. According to the report, drivers in both US cities spent an average of 102 hours a year in traffic congestion. The capital of the UK, London, ranked fourth, spending 101 hours a year in traffic. Mexico City completed the top five with 97 hours per driver. NEW TRAFFIC MEASURE IN NEW YORKAs is known, a new measure has been implemented in New York to prevent traffic congestion. According to the new measure, those entering areas around the Empire State, Times Square, and Wall Street, located south of Central Park, will now have to pay up to $9 a day. Drivers will also pay $2.25 during other hours. The congestion fee is planned to increase to $12 by 2028 and to $15 by 2031.
