IT INCREASED IN INTENSITY DURING THE NIGHT
While light rain was observed in the districts of Fatih, Zeytinburnu, Bayrampaşa, Güngören, Beşiktaş, and Şişli on the European side, the intensity of the rain increased in Gaziosmanpaşa, Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Esenyurt, Sultangazi, and Küçükçekmece starting from the night hours.
ISTIKLAL WAS SUBMERGED
Those caught off guard by the sudden downpour in Taksim, one of Istanbul's tourist areas, took shelter under bus stops and the awnings of shops. As a result of the downpour, streets and avenues in Taksim were submerged, and Istiklal Street turned into a lake.
Due to the rain, which was effective in almost all of the Anatolian side, vehicles struggled to move through the puddles that formed in places.
In the city, some basements of homes and workplaces were flooded.
A ROAD COLLAPSED ON VATAN STREET
Due to the downpour, a sinkhole approximately 3 meters deep and 6 square meters wide formed on Adnan Menderes Boulevard on Vatan Street. A taxi with the license plate 34 TKH 16, driven by A.Y. (62), lost control and overturned after the driver maneuvered to avoid falling into the opened pit.
The driver A.Y., who was rescued from the overturned vehicle with the help of the teams, was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The overturned taxi was removed from its location with the help of a tow truck, and security measures were taken at the site of the collapse.
THE UNDERPASS IN BAKIRKÖY WAS FLOODED
Due to the heavy rain, the Bakırköy Yeşilköy Florya underpass was filled with rainwater. Some vehicles changed their route as they could not pass through the water. Some vehicles struggled to move on the road. Drivers reduced their speeds while passing through the underpass, and İBB teams started working on the waterlogged road.
One of the points where rainwater accumulated was Eski Havalimanı Street. Puddles formed in some sections of the street. While drivers struggled to move along the street, some drivers had to maneuver with their vehicles to avoid entering the water.
