Pieology, which gained fame in the U.S. for its fast-service pizzas and reached over 200 locations before the pandemic, has filed for bankruptcy following a financial crisis. The number of locations for the chain has gradually declined to around 100.
US-based fast-casual pizza chain Pieology has filed for bankruptcy protection following a prolonged period of store closures and financial troubles. The company's parent organization, Little Brown Box Pizza, filed for bankruptcy in court on Tuesday.
MORE THAN 200 CREDITORS
According to information reported by Business Insider, documents submitted to the court indicate that the company's assets are valued between $100,000 and $1 million, while its debts range from $1 million to $10 million. The filing also noted that Pieology has over 200 creditors.
SHUT DOWN DOZENS OF LOCATIONS WITH THE PANDEMIC
Founded in 2011 with the concept of "design your own pizza," Pieology quickly grew with its handmade dough, fresh sauces, and premium ingredients, reaching over 200 locations across the US before the pandemic. However, the company's performance declined in the post-pandemic period. The number of locations in the chain dropped to 103 by the end of 2024, with sales experiencing a decrease of approximately 11%.
On the morning following the bankruptcy filing, it was observed that around 40 locations were still listed on Pieology's website. Most of these locations are reported to be in California, while others are operating in Texas, Florida, Oregon, Nevada, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
NO STATEMENT FROM THE COMPANY YET
The company stated that it is currently continuing its operations but has not made a clear decision regarding potential new store closures during the bankruptcy process. Pieology has yet to respond to media inquiries for comments.
