At the first hearing of the case regarding the armed attack that killed 21-year-old amateur footballer Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı in Istanbul's Ümraniye district, famous folk singer İzzet Yıldızhan, who is being tried on charges of "harboring a criminal," appeared before the judge. Yıldızhan, who was released after spending 45 days in prison, rebelled in his defense in court, saying, "I am the most innocent person in this incident. My entire reputation has been destroyed, it's over."
On the night of March 19, a bloody incident occurred in front of a studio on Sıddık Street in Ümraniye, where rapper Vahap Canbay's attempt to reconcile with his ex-girlfriend Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu ended in tragedy. Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı, 21, who was there as a mediator, lost his life when a group arrived in luxury vehicles with flashing lights and opened fire.
FACING UP TO 5 YEARS IN PRISON
In the extensive investigation following the incident, İzzet Yıldızhan, who was arrested and detained on charges of 'harboring a criminal' and spent 45 days in prison before being released under judicial control, faces a prison sentence of 6 months to 5 years.
"I AM THE MOST VICTIMIZED PARTY IN THIS INCIDENT"
Making his defense at the first hearing held today at the Istanbul Anatolia 23rd Heavy Penal Court, İzzet Yıldızhan claimed that he had nothing to do with the murder and that he had been unjustly subjected to a major character assassination. Expressing his victimization, the famous folk singer addressed the court panel with these words: "I am the most victimized party. I am the most innocent one in this incident. My entire reputation has been destroyed, finished. I spent 45 days in prison. I demand my reputation back from the court."
TRIAL WITH DEMAND FOR LIFE IMPRISONMENT CONTINUES
In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Anatolia Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a life imprisonment sentence is sought for Alaattin Kadayıfçıoğlu, who is stated to have fired the weapon, on charges of 'intentional killing', and for famous singer Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu on charges of 'incitement to intentional killing'. In the case where the main target is alleged to be rapper Vahap Canbay, the court panel continues to take statements from other defendants and evaluate evidence.
