Japanese automotive giant Honda has inaugurated its new motorcycle factory, built on a 100,000 square meter area in Aliağa, İzmir. “THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO CREATE AN IMPACT THAT ADDS VALUE TO PEOPLE'S LIVES”

Stating that Türkiye has a dynamic structure, Honda Türkiye President Satoru Yamada said, "This production facility we have realized in İzmir Aliağa is a clear indication of Honda's strong belief in Türkiye, its long-term vision, and the close relationship based on trust we have built over the years. For us, it is not enough to measure success only by economic indicators. What really matters is creating an impact that touches society and adds value to people's lives."

“WE HAVE BROUGHT A LONG-TERM FACTORY TO LIFE”

Stating that it is aimed to increase traffic safety awareness and contribute to user training through projects implemented in line with Honda's global 'safety' approach, Honda Türkiye Vice President Bülent Kılıçer said, "Today is a very important day for us and Türkiye; we have opened our motorcycle factory and our first production has started. Motorcycle sales in Türkiye continue to increase day by day. Especially during and after the pandemic, total motorcycle sales exceeded those of automobiles in 2024, breaking a historic record. Our young population and the need for mobility are increasing every day. For these reasons, we have brought to life this factory that is grounded, sustainable, and long-term in Türkiye. Thus, we continue our production rapidly in a total of 24 countries and 38 factories globally."

“THE FIRST MODEL TO BE PRODUCED IS PCX”

Emphasizing that they will place great importance on localization in order to produce faster and more flexibly in Türkiye, Kılıçer said, "Local integration will be one of the most important parts of this business. In the following period, while transferring Honda's know-how derived from its history to Türkiye, we will continue our investments in a much more long-term and sustainable environment. Our factory has a total production capacity of 100,000 units. This is a production achievable with a single shift. However, with a second shift, our total production will reach 150,000 and later up to 200,000. The first model to be produced here is the PCX 125 cc scooter, weighing approximately 130 kilos. It is very important to keep fuel consumption and costs as low as possible. Because we are talking about a fuel consumption of only 2 liters per 100 km in city traffic. It constituted about 40 percent of our sales. That is why demand will continue to increase for both individual and commercial use in the coming period."

“WHEN IT REACHES FULL CAPACITY, MONTHLY PRODUCTION WILL BE BETWEEN 7 AND 8 THOUSAND”

Stating that they currently provide employment for approximately 300 people, Kılıçer said, "In the coming period, with localization, this employment rate will increase to approximately 750-800 people. When our factory reaches full capacity, monthly production will average between 7,000 and 8,000 units. Production at the factory increases by 50 percent with the second shift. Therefore, it rises to the range of 10,000 to 11,000. Another important issue is localization. This will provide us with much more flexible and faster production. We ensure reaching from one point to another with the lowest cost and in the shortest time."

Stating that Honda has been the best-selling brand in Türkiye for about 13 years, Kılıçer continued as follows: "In 2026, the motorcycle park in Türkiye exceeded 7 million units, setting another record. Although Honda's share in this total figure varies from year to year, we have a market share of approximately 25 percent. Last year we sold 72,000 motorcycles, and the previous year a record level of approximately 165,000. This is a proud situation for us. Honda has been the best-selling brand in Türkiye for 13 years. Out of every 100 motorcycles sold in Türkiye, 25 are Honda."
