Journalist Alican Uludağ was arrested on charges of "publicly insulting the President" and "publicly disseminating misleading information to the public."
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation against journalist Alican Uludağ regarding some posts he made on social media for "publicly insulting the President" and "publicly disseminating misleading information."
HE WAS ARRESTED
Uludağ, who was detained in Ankara, was referred to the Peace Criminal Court for arrest. He was arrested by the court he was brought before.
NEWS AND POSTS ON X WERE CITED AS EVIDENCE
According to information published by DW Turkish, the detention order cited Uludağ's news about the release of ISIS members who planned the Atatürk Airport attack and his social media posts on X as justification.
Alican Uludağ announced to the public on December 18, 2024, in a news broadcast on NOW TV, that the Court of Cassation ruled for the release of 6 defendants who caused the death of 45 people at Atatürk Airport and were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment 46 times and 2604 years in prison.
WHO IS ALICAN ULUDAĞ?
Uludağ started his journalism career in 2008 at Cumhuriyet newspaper and is a graduate of the Journalism Department of Gazi University Faculty of Communication. Having worked as a judiciary reporter for many years, Uludağ follows human rights violations, corruption cases, and trials closely monitored by the public.
In 2019, he was awarded the Uğur Mumcu Investigative Journalism Award by the Contemporary Journalists Association, in 2020 he received the political news award from the Turkish Journalists Association, and in 2021 he was honored with the Raif Badawi Courageous Journalists Award by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.
In March 2021, Uludağ began producing exclusive news for DW Turkish, moved to NOW TV on December 2, 2024, and rejoined the DW Turkish team on December 1, 2025.
