CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was arrested for 'membership in a terrorist organization'. Following this, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel targeted the investigation prosecutor Akın Gürlek, stating, "I am calling out from here. Akın Gürlek, who came to carry out these operations upon the orders of Mr. Erdoğan, do you remember Zekeriya Öz? You are Erdoğan's Zekeriya Öz," he said. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç reacted strongly to Özel's remarks targeting Chief Prosecutor Akın Gürlek.
"THREATENING JUDICIAL MEMBERS IS NEVER ACCEPTABLE"
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç made a statement on his social media account, using the following expressions:
It is absolutely unacceptable to target and threaten the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor and judicial members regarding the ongoing judicial investigation against the Esenyurt Mayor, and to attempt to influence them.
"NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT OR THE AUTHORITY"
The Republic of Turkey is a Rule of Law State. Threatening the judiciary is neither anyone's right nor authority. According to Article 138 of our Constitution; Judges are independent in their duties. No organ, authority, institution, or person can give orders or instructions to the courts and judges in the exercise of judicial authority.
"UGLY DISCOURSE AND BEHAVIOR CAN NEVER BE PROTECTED IN A RULE OF LAW STATE"
Until a started investigation or prosecution results in a final judgment, attempting to influence prosecutors, judges, and courts through public verbal or written statements is incompatible with the Rule of Law. Such ugly discourse and behavior, which means interference in an independent judiciary, can never be protected in a Rule of Law State.
