King Charles III of the United Kingdom and members of the British Royal Family attended a dinner held at Windsor Castle near London in honor of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman.
In a welcoming speech here, King Charles noted that the relationship between the UK and Oman has a history of more than 200 years, and spoke of cooperation between British and Omani sailors in the 17th century.
Emphasizing that Oman remains one of the UK's important partners in the region, King Charles explained that the two countries cooperate in every field.
Pointing to the famous traveler Ibn Battuta's remarks about Oman's beauty, King Charles said, "Britain learned a great deal from the leadership of former Sultan Qaboos of Oman. I fondly remember my meetings with him since my first visit to Oman 46 years ago."
Also praising the leadership of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, King Charles said, "When conflicts affected the region, Oman's outstanding effort to keep the world's most important maritime trade route (the Strait of Hormuz) open was an important service to the entire international community, especially the most vulnerable."
HE READ IN ARABIC THE HADITH ABOUT THE OMANI PEOPLE
Noting that Oman's constructive neutrality throughout the Gulf region deserves respect, King Charles read in Arabic the hadith of Prophet Muhammad to an envoy who had been insulted by one of the Arab tribes: "If you had gone to the people of Oman, they would neither have insulted you nor beaten you."
Noting that the crown princes of the two countries will be joint patrons of the "Jewel of Arabia Discovery Route," King Charles said, "Climate change is trying to alter the lands and seas that will be inherited by our crown princes. Artificial intelligence promises both hope and danger without foresight and reason. The race to access resources tests the international order."
SULTAN MET WITH PRIME MINISTER BURNHAM
