Ahmet Selçuk Yaşacan, who killed his relative Behzat Atacan with a shotgun at home after arguing over a wall on the boundary, ignored the gendarmerie's calls to surrender in his car where he fled after the murder, and ended his own life with the same weapon.
In the Pazar district of Rize, a land boundary dispute among relatives turned into a horrific tragedy resulting in a double death. Ahmet Selçuk Yaşacan (58), who killed his relative Behzat Atacan with a pump-action shotgun over a wall on the boundary, ignored the gendarmerie's call to surrender in his escape vehicle and committed suicide with the same weapon.
WALL DISPUTE ENDS BLOODY: HE STORMED THE HOUSE AND KILLED
The incident occurred in the village of Ortayol, affiliated with the Pazar district. According to claims, a dispute broke out between Ahmet Selçuk Yaşacan and his relative Behzat Atacan over a wall on the land boundary. As the verbal argument escalated, Yaşacan, enraged, returned home, grabbed his pump-action shotgun, and set out towards Atacan's house. The enraged man opened fire at the home, and Behzat Atacan, struck by the bullets, died horribly at the scene.
HE SAID "I WILL SHOOT MYSELF IF YOU COME" AND DID NOT SURRENDER
After the murder, Ahmet Selçuk Yaşacan fled the area with the weapon used in the crime and hid inside a vehicle in the Kesikköprü neighborhood. A while later, Yaşacan called the 112 Emergency Call Center, reported his location, and said he would commit suicide if law enforcement came to take him.
Upon the report, gendarmerie and medical teams were quickly dispatched to the specified area. After securing the perimeter, gendarmerie teams made prolonged attempts to persuade Yaşacan to surrender from inside the vehicle. However, refusing to surrender despite all efforts, Ahmet Selçuk Yaşacan fired the pump-action shotgun in his hand and ended his life.
In the district shaken by the consecutive reports of two deaths, a comprehensive investigation into the incident continues.
