In the investigation of the "Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Stock Exchange," lawyer Mücahit Birinci, who received permission from the Ministry of Justice to conduct the investigation, arrived at the courthouse to give his statement as a suspect. In a statement he made before his testimony, he said, "I am facing a strange situation because I am performing my profession. I will defend the rights and legal interests of all lawyers."
As part of the 'corruption' investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), an investigation was initiated ex officio to examine the allegations that meetings took place in prison between detained suspects and lawyer Mücahit Birinci.
BİRİNCİ CAME TO ISTANBUL COURT
In this context, a request for investigation permission was made due to Birinci's status as a lawyer, and permission was granted by the Ministry of Justice. Lawyer Mücahit Birinci came to the Istanbul Courthouse to give his statement as a suspect. Birinci's statement will be taken by the prosecutor's office.
HE WENT WITH HIS BODYGUARD, NOT THE POLICE
Today, the prosecutor's office instructed the Istanbul Police Department to bring Birinci for his statement. However, Birinci came to give his statement to the prosecutor's office without police escort.
HE MADE STATEMENTS BEFORE HIS TESTIMONY
Before giving his statement at the courthouse, Birinci made a statement to the press, saying, "I have done nothing but perform my duty as a lawyer. I will defend the rights and law of all lawyers. I say the rights and law of all lawyers. Because when we decide whom to take power of attorney from, we do not receive any instructions. We do not recognize any hierarchical superior. No one is our hierarchical superior. Therefore, I have performed my profession. I am facing a strange situation because I have performed my profession," he said.
"I CAME ON MY OWN, NOT WITH POLICE ESCORT"
In response to the question, "Did you come with police escort?", Birinci stated: "I came on my own. When I first heard the complaint, I already came to the courthouse. Right now, when I heard the police invitation, I came to the courthouse again. Courthouses are our second home. We do not leave courthouses; this is our job. Therefore, I am a person who has made it a principle to comply whenever the chief public prosecutor invites or calls. I am fulfilling that invitation now. I will give my statement, and we will come out of this cleared. This profession will also come out cleared. Does this man have an accusation against me?
"I DECIDE HOW TO PERFORM MY PROFESSION"
Does he have an accusation that I gave Mücahit Birinci this much money under the shade of a tree? Does he have an accusation that he did not give me a receipt in return? No, there are none of these. There are no such accusations. Therefore, I repeat, I decide how to perform my profession and whose power of attorney I will take. I do not let anyone else decide. I do not have a hierarchical superior at that point.
