The Israeli press reported that Turkey is advancing toward establishing a new military and strategic power center in the Middle East. The report highlighted Ankara's close cooperation with Qatar and Pakistan, stating that Turkey is rapidly increasing its influence in the region and that this new axis is seen as a serious threat to Israel.
The Jerusalem Post, an Israeli-based newspaper, stated in its analysis of changing power dynamics in the Middle East that Turkey has significantly increased its regional influence in recent times. The report noted that one of the most striking yet under-analyzed developments in the current strategic landscape is the new regional structure led by Turkey.
“TURKEY IN A KEY ACTOR POSITION”
The analysis suggested that Ankara is at the center of a new axis reportedly formed by Turkey, Qatar, and Pakistan. It evaluated that Saudi Arabia and Egypt may align with this structure in the future, claiming that this formation is positioned on an anti-Israel line.
ATTENTION DRAWN TO ITS INFLUENCE IN SYRIA
The article argued that Turkey could expand its sphere of influence to Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. According to a report in Star newspaper, Syria was cited as the most striking example in this context, with the assessment that Turkey is the country with the most influence over Damascus in the post-Bashar al-Assad era.
“ANKARA’S SPHERE OF INFLUENCE IS EXPANDING”
The Jerusalem Post highlighted that Turkey is an effective actor not only in Syria but also in Iraq and in its relations with Hamas. The analysis also included the view that Ankara has steadily increased its political and diplomatic influence in the region in recent years.
In Lebanon, it was claimed that Turkey is trying to increase its influence, particularly through the Tripoli and Akkar regions and the Turkmen population. It was also alleged that US President Donald Trump's statements regarding the potential role of the Syrian administration in Lebanon demonstrate Turkey's influence with the Washington administration.
EMPHASIS ON STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH QATAR
The report stated that Ankara and Doha have developed a strong strategic partnership in economic, military, and diplomatic fields over the past decade. It was also reminded that Turkey imports significant amounts of natural gas from Qatar and maintains a permanent military base in the country.
ATTENTION DRAWN TO TURKEY-PAKISTAN RELATIONS
The analysis expressed that Pakistan forms the third leg of the structure described as a "strategic trio." It noted that Turkey is one of Pakistan's important arms suppliers, and defense cooperation and economic investments between the two countries are increasingly growing.
It was also recorded that Ankara has taken similar stances to Pakistan on various international issues at the United Nations, especially Kashmir.
ASSESSMENT OF “A NEW SECURITY CONCERN FOR TEL AVIV”
In the Jerusalem Post analysis, it was claimed that although no formal defense alliance exists, Turkey, Qatar, and Pakistan have complementary economic, military, and strategic capabilities. It argued that Qatar's financial power, Turkey's military capacity, and Pakistan's nuclear capability form a remarkable balance of power.
The newspaper wrote that the rapprochement among these three countries is considered a new strategic challenge for both Israel and countries following Western-oriented policies in the region.
