While Özgür Özel and his team are expected to announce the formation of a new party next week, it is anticipated that with the participation of at least 80 deputies, the main opposition party status held by the CHP for 24 years will also change hands.
Following the "absolute nullity" decision of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice 36th Civil Chamber dated May 21, no consensus was reached in the leadership crisis within CHP. The rift between Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was appointed to the chairmanship by court order, and Özgür Özel has escalated to a new level.
It has been learned that after Özgür Özel's calls for an extraordinary congress went unanswered, Özel and his team decided to continue their political efforts under the umbrella of a new party to be established.
NEW PARTY EXPECTED TO BE ANNOUNCED WITHIN THE WEEK
According to a report by Bala Ateş Irmak from Sözcü, following the judicial recess starting Monday, Özgür Özel and his aides are expected to introduce the new party to the public within the week. Based on information discussed behind the scenes, barring any legal obstacles, the party's name is said to be "New Party."
It is also stated that deputies supporting Özel are planned to join the new party collectively.
MAIN OPPOSITION TITLE MAY CHANGE HANDS
If at least 80 deputies from CHP join the new party, it is expected to rise to the position of main opposition party in the Turkish Grand National Assembly on the day it is founded.
Should this scenario materialize, the title of "main opposition party," which the Republican People's Party has held for approximately 24 years, would transfer to the new party established by Özgür Özel.
It is planned that details about the new formation will be shared with the public throughout the following week, after which the party's establishment process will be completed with an official application to the Ministry of Interior.
