Denizcan Karakoç (26), traveling in one of two single-engine planes that took off from BURSA's Yunuseli Airport, proposed via radio at an altitude of 4,500 feet to his girlfriend of 2 years, Nur Ceylan (24), in the other plane. Ceylan answered “Yes” to the question “Will you marry me?” that came over the radio announcement.
Denizcan Karakoç, an electrical engineer living in Istanbul, planned an unforgettable marriage proposal for his girlfriend Nur Ceylan, whom he met at university 2 years ago. Wanting to go beyond classic proposals, Karakoç combined his passion for aviation with romance and chose the sky. Two single-engine planes took off simultaneously from Yunuseli Airport in Osmangazi district. Denizcan Karakoç, in one of the planes under the pilots' control, proposed over the radio to his girlfriend Nur Ceylan, who was traveling in the other plane. At an altitude of about 4,500 feet from the ground, Nur Ceylan was happy with Karakoç's surprise and accepted the proposal. After the flight, Denizcan Karakoç gave his girlfriend Nur flowers and put the ring on her finger.
HE GOT A “YES” ANSWER AT 4,500 FEET
Karakoç, who stated that he wanted to make a different marriage proposal, said, “I wanted it to be a special moment for both of us. I wanted it to be a beautiful memory that we could tell our children about in the future or tell our spouse and friends about. I was interested in the aviation sector, and I planned the marriage proposal around this sector as well. I told my girlfriend that I had a meeting in Bursa lasting 2 to 3 hours and that I would have free time, and I asked her to accompany me. Then, thankfully, she didn't refuse me and came from Muğla to Bursa. During that 3-hour meeting part, I arranged the whole organization. Afterwards, we went to Yunuseli Airport together. In separate planes, at about 4,500 feet, I got the answer ‘yes.’ I am very happy.”
SUCH A THING HAD NEVER EVEN CROSSED HER MIND
Nur Ceylan, who said she did not expect such a marriage proposal, said, “He said, ‘I have meeting matters, it will take 2 hours, and afterwards we can tour Bursa.’ I came here based on that. After that, he had organized everything on the day by saying it was an airplane museum, then he came and picked me up and took me, saying we were going to the airplane museum. I was going thinking we would see planes and such. Then the team met us. They were very nice. I felt very good. I thought they would show us around. After that, we went up in separate planes. Then he came right next to me with the plane and said over the radio, ‘Can you hear me?’ and so on. There is also the rest of what happened in the video. Afterwards, I got extremely excited. I am getting extremely excited right now. He made the marriage proposal, and I said ‘Yes’ with great excitement. That is how it happened. During landing with the planes, we formed a heart shape on the right and left. I love him very much, and such a marriage proposal would never even have crossed my mind.”
