In his statement, Yıldız said, "The unitary structure of Turkey, territorial integrity, the principle of a secular republic, and the fact that the official language is Turkish cannot be subject to discussion."
The report of the Commission on National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) regarding the Terror-Free Turkey process was accepted with 47 votes.
MHP MEMBER LISTED ONE BY ONE
The commission meeting continued with the evaluations of the commission members following Kurtulmuş's statement. MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız made important statements.
Yıldız, who said, "In this process, no word has been left unsaid, and there have even been unfounded accusations against our parties, but we did not even feel the need to respond to these," emphasized, "Our commission does not have the authority or mission to transform the founding philosophy of the Republic of Turkey, the fundamental constitutional principles, the democratic functioning, and the unitary state structure.
I underline this once again. Turkey's unitary state structure, territorial integrity, the status of the country's official language, and the principle of secular republic are our common fundamental values that cannot be debated. This framework text has been prepared without compromising the anti-terror laws for social peace and tranquility, without deviating from the principle of the rule of law, and without neglecting national security," he stated.
"IT IS A STRATEGIC GOAL THAT ALSO INCLUDES ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT"
Yıldız stated: "Terror, which manifests itself through the systematic application of violence to achieve political, sociological, religious, or ethnic goals, is not only a crime against the direct victims it targets but also a crime against humanity that creates fear and intimidation over broader masses, desiring to leave a psychological impact. The phenomenon of terrorism is a multidimensional situation that deeply shakes the concepts of sovereignty, security, and social stability of contemporary states. The vision of a Terror-Free Turkey is not merely to be seen as a security policy but rather as a matter of the state's survival. It is a strategic goal that also encompasses the democratization process and economic development.
Some regulations will be made without hurting the public conscience. First of all, our penal system, which we have been saying for ages, has truly turned into a patchwork quilt. This penal system needs to be corrected. Equality must be ensured here. Among the first recommendations of our commission is the regulation of penalties.
"THE FIRST TASK IS REGULATIONS CONCERNING SICK AND ELDERLY INMATES"
There is also the issue of compliance with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and the Constitutional Court, which has caused some discussions. The command of our Constitution on this matter is clear. Article 90 of the Constitution is evident; of course, as a rule of law, we must comply with the decisions of both the European Court of Human Rights and the Constitutional Court. There are sick and elderly inmates in prisons. Although they are occasionally addressed, hundreds of people are either unable to go to the hospital or are not in a position to take care of themselves and maintain their lives in prison. Our commission has also addressed this issue in its report. It is among the first tasks that our Assembly will undertake."
