In Trieste, a city in northeastern Italy, a driver whose vehicle fell into the sea was rescued thanks to the swift intervention of military academy staff and students on the scene. The moment was captured on camera.
A potential disaster was averted in Italy on Sunday following an accident.
MILITARY ACADEMY STUDENTS JUMPED INTO THE SEA AS SOON AS THEY SAW IT
In the city of Trieste, in the northeast of the country, a 41-year-old driver, for an unknown reason, lost control of his car and fell into the sea from the pier at Italy's Unity Square.
According to reports in the Italian press; during an official visit to Trieste by members of the Modena Military Academy, a group consisting of academy personnel and students acted quickly. Shortly after getting off the bus, the group noticed the accident and jumped into the sea to reach the vehicle. Holding onto the sinking car together, they managed to pull the driver out of the vehicle and handed him over to medical teams.
ONE PERSONNEL INJURED
While the 41-year-old driver rescued from the car was determined not to be seriously injured, one personnel injured during the rescue efforts was taken to the hospital for treatment. Firefighters located the car about 20 meters offshore at a depth of 7 meters. After divers confirmed that no one else was in the vehicle, the car was brought to the surface with special balloons and removed from the sea with the help of a crane.

Italy's Defense Minister Guideo Crosetto issued a message after the incident, stating, "Their courage, training, and sense of duty made the entire defense organization proud. They acted without hesitation, putting their own lives at risk to save another person's life. This is what it means to be a soldier; to serve the country and protect human life even when it is not required by duty. I thank them."

Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in a statement today, "In Trieste, some students from the Modena Military Academy acted with courage and quick response to rescue a person who had fallen into the sea with their car. Acting without hesitation, the students prioritized another person's life. This behavior was one of the best examples of service mentality, sense of responsibility, and duty. We extend our thanks to these young people and express that the entire nation is proud."
The police have launched an investigation into the accident. The rescue operation was recorded by tourists in the area.
