The Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, drew attention to the effects of social media on children and signaled an important regulation.
"WE WILL IMPLEMENT IT VERY SOON"
Minister Göktaş stated in a post on her social media account that people can no longer focus for more than 8 seconds. Emphasizing that this constant state of alertness harms children more, Göktaş said, "For this reason, just like in many countries around the world, we are implementing our social media regulation aimed at protecting our children very soon."
In Göktaş's post, there was also a video in which she made a statement regarding the issue. Göktaş emphasized that the video should be watched more carefully while playing with play dough, stating that it is no longer sufficient to just talk to watch videos on social media; different actions should also be exhibited.
"WE CAN MAKE THE INTERNET SAFE FOR OUR CHILDREN TOGETHER"
Minister Göktaş noted: "It has become so normal for us to constantly scroll through screens on social media... Our focus time on a topic no longer exceeds 8 seconds. This constant state of alertness harms our children more, in our opinion. The attention span of our children has decreased by at least 30% in the last 10 years. This directly affects their ability to focus, their friendships, and their success rates in school. This has made the teaching processes of our teachers quite challenging. For this reason, social media regulations for children are being discussed and implemented all around the world. We are also working to provide a safer internet environment for our children. We ask for support from you, our parents, and our teachers on this matter. We can make the internet safe for our children together."
