The General Directorate of the Mint and Stamp Printing House has completely halted the production of 1 and 5 kuruş coins due to production costs exceeding their nominal value. Starting from 2026, only the production of 5 TL, 1 TL, 50 kuruş, and 10 kuruş coins will continue.
The Mint and Stamp Printing General Directorate has made a radical change due to the production costs exceeding the value of the coins.
PRODUCTION OF TWO COINS HAS BEEN STOPPED
The institution has completely halted the production of 1 and 5 kuruş coins as of the beginning of 2026, while focusing its production policy more on 1 TL and 5 TL. Previously, the Mint drew attention with the effective withdrawal of the 25 kuruş from circulation in 2024, and with the new decision, it has also removed the two smallest coins from its production list. From 2026 onwards, only the production of 5 TL, 1 TL, 50 kuruş, and 10 kuruş will continue.
JANUARY PRODUCTION FIGURES RELEASED
According to data published on T24, in January, 2 million 70 thousand pieces of 50 kuruş and only 180 thousand pieces of 10 kuruş were produced. In the same month, 10 million pieces of the 5 TL coin, minted in memory of the 100th anniversary of the Republic and still in circulation, were released.
COSTS HAVE MULTIPLIED
Mint data reveals that the cost of coins has multiplied their nominal values. Accordingly, the production cost of 1 TL exceeds 4 TL, while the cost of 50 kuruş is reported to have risen to approximately 3 TL.
