Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, providing information about the ongoing legislative work regarding social media, stated, "There is a lot of misinformation on social media. Judgments are being made, and rulings are being issued. Our judge and prosecutor colleagues are being lynched. There is a legislative effort regarding social media. If an individual is going to publish a post there, their identity must be accurate. They will not be able to do this with a fake account."

The Minister of Justice, Akın Gürlek, gave his first interview after taking office. Speaking in a live broadcast he attended, Minister Gürlek also provided information about the ongoing legislative work regarding social media. Stating that there is misinformation on social media and that he attaches importance to the said work, Gürlek said that identity verification will become mandatory.

"TRIALS ARE BEING CONDUCTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA, SENTENCES ARE BEING GIVEN, DECISIONS ARE BEING MADE"

The part of Minister Gürlek's statements regarding the issue is as follows: "Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation on social media. I have worked as a judge and prosecutor, and I have seen it during the process; now, you know, trials are being conducted on social media, meaning sentences are being given, decisions are being made. It is not like that in reality. Here, judge and prosecutor friends are especially lynched; there is no such thing. The judge makes decisions based on the evidence in the file, but on social media, 'Why was he released?', 'Why did he receive this much punishment?' I mean, there is misinformation on social media.

"IF A PERSON IS GOING TO COMMENT, IF A PERSON IS GOING TO PUBLISH A WRITING, THEIR IDENTITY WILL DEFINITELY BE KNOWN"

As far as I know, there is a legislative work regarding social media. I mean, if a person is going to comment on social media, if a person is going to publish a writing, their identity will definitely be known. They will not do this with a fake account without verifying their identity or with a fake account from abroad. We know that character assassinations are happening; everyone is subjected to character assassination; it happens to judge and prosecutor friends, and they try to influence the trial. These are wrong. If a person makes a statement on social media, if they point out a target, since that person's identity will be known, their criminal responsibility will also begin. I attach importance to the legislative work regarding social media in this matter."
