Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya provided information about operations conducted in 24 provinces over the last 5 days as part of the fight against cybercrime. Minister Yerlikaya announced that 204 suspects were apprehended in operations targeting illegal gambling, online child pornography and abuse, and qualified fraud offenses.
Interior Minister Yerlikaya stated in a post on his social media account that they are continuously fighting against criminal networks. In his post, where he urged citizens to be more cautious, Yerlikaya included the following statements:
"204 SUSPECTS ARRESTED, 68 OF THEM DETAINED"
"As part of the fight against cybercrime, in the operations carried out by our police over the last 5 days, we have arrested 204 suspects. We have prevented our citizens from suffering financial and moral damage from cybercrimes such as illegal gambling, child pornography, and fraud that could be committed through these individuals. In our operations conducted over the last 5 days targeting 'illegal gambling, online child pornography and harassment, qualified fraud' in 24 provinces; 68 suspects were detained, judicial control measures were applied to 30 of them, and the procedures for the others are ongoing.
GAMBLING, CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, FRAUD...
It has been determined that the suspects were involved in illegal gambling and betting, facilitated money transfers on illegal gambling sites, advertised them, hosted obscene child images, and defrauded our citizens using themes such as 'public officials, product/service sales, low-interest loans' through social media platforms and phishing sites, and made shares regarding the sharing and inquiry of personal data.
As a result of the efforts carried out by our Cyber Crime Department of the General Directorate of Security (EGM) and MASAK in coordination; investigations have been initiated by our prosecutors against the suspects captured in operations conducted in Adıyaman, Ankara, Antalya, Ardahan, Çanakkale, Denizli, Düzce, Erzurum, Gaziantep, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Hatay, Istanbul, Izmir, Kayseri, Kocaeli, Malatya, Mersin, Ordu, Sakarya, Sivas, Tokat, Trabzon, and Yalova.
