A little girl who climbed onto a window ledge of a building on a busy street in London and hung in the air for minutes was miraculously rescued after harrowing moments. Exhausted and letting herself fall into the void, the child was caught mid-air by a police officer and a civilian positioned directly below. London's Police Service announced that thanks to this successful intervention, carried out just 9 minutes after the report, the child was rescued without injury.

In the capital of England, London, a little girl climbing onto a window ledge of a building and hanging in the air for seconds caused hearts to race. Amid the horrified looks of the surrounding crowd, the child's hands slipped and she fell into the void, miraculously clinging to life thanks to the reflexes of a police officer and a citizen positioned directly below.

On Tuesday afternoon, a literal life-and-death scene unfolded on Ilford High Road in East London. In images captured moment by moment on a nearby citizen's mobile phone camera, a little girl was seen climbing onto the external ledge of the building directly above the H&T pawnshop and dangerously holding onto the sill beneath the windows.

FRIGHTENING MOMENTS WERE EXPERIENCED

In those moments when people on the street screamed helplessly and gathered below, a panicked woman emerging from a window on the lower floor tried to help by calling out to the child in danger. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, a man and a police officer who was on the street quickly climbed onto the pawnshop's awning and positioned themselves at the exact spot where the child would fall.

When the little girl could no longer hold on and let go of her hands, cries rose from the street. However, the heroic citizen and police officer on the awning managed to catch the rapidly falling child in mid-air.

CITIZENS APPLAUDED

After the little child was safely held in the arms of the man who caught her, she was handed back through the lower window to the woman waiting for her. Following the incident's smooth resolution, the curious crowd waiting below experienced great relief and applauded the rescue team, while the shirtless citizen was seen hugging the police officer who saved a life alongside him, captured on camera.

MET POLICE: SECURED IN NINE MINUTES

A spokesperson for the London Police Service (Met Police) made a statement after the incident, noting that teams arrived at the scene immediately after the report and shared the following information:

"Police officers were called to Ilford High Road on Tuesday, June 9, at 15:23, regarding safety concerns after a child climbed onto a window ledge. The girl was taken to a safe place at 15:32 thanks to the heroic intervention of a police officer and a citizen who quickly arrived at the scene. No injuries were reported in the incident, and the child came through this dangerous process unscathed."
