"Glass hazard alert in bread! Products recalled in the USA."

Three different types of bread produced by the U.S.-based Upper Crust Bakery LP have been recalled by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) due to the potential presence of glass fragments. The FDA warned that consuming these products could lead to serious injuries in the throat and digestive system.

The Giant Eagle supermarket chain announced that it has recalled the Multigrain Sourdough Freshly Baked Bread, Half Multigrain Handmade Bread, and Whole Grain Sourdough Handmade Bread products that hit the shelves between April 7-12.

The products were distributed in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Indiana, and West Virginia.

It was stated that the product could cause temporary health issues, but the likelihood of causing permanent harm is low.

THERE HAS BEEN A SIMILAR INCIDENT BEFORE

The producer of the breads, Maryland-based Upper Crust Bakery, made the first recall announcement on April 12. This recall covers 818 cases and includes 18-ounce Multigrain Sourdough breads, 4-ounce Ancient Grains Hoagie Rolls, and 20-ounce Whole Grain Multigrain breads.

In a statement from the FDA, it was noted that the products were shipped frozen in cardboard boxes. While this is a common practice used to maintain product integrity, it is still unclear how the glass got in.

Although there have been no reports of injuries, experts warn consumers that swallowing glass could lead to serious complications such as perforation, infection, and sepsis in the gastrointestinal system.

Giant Eagle has reached out directly to customers affected by the recall, requesting that the products not be consumed and be disposed of. Developments are being closely monitored.
