Music ban due to shipwreck in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

Due to the mourning declared after the passenger ship sank off Kyrenia in the TRNC, a ban has been imposed on music and entertainment activities until the morning of Saturday, September 5. Weddings are exempt, and it was stated that inspections will be tightened.

Due to the shipwreck off the coast of Kyrenia in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), a mourning period has been declared, and music and entertainment activities have been banned until the morning of Saturday, September 5.

MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT BANNED

According to information received by the Turkish Agency of Cyprus (TAK) from Nicosia District Officer Fadil Keles, the Ministry of Interior, taking into account the public's sorrow and sensitivity regarding the shipwreck off the coast of Kyrenia, ordered the necessary measures to be taken regarding music and entertainment activities until the morning of Saturday, September 5.

Accordingly, with the exception of weddings held in wedding halls, a ban has been imposed on playing music in residences, workplaces, restaurants, cafes, bars, entertainment venues, and similar places.

Additionally, instructions were given to announce the ban to all relevant individuals, institutions, and businesses, to carry out necessary inspections and controls, and to ensure compliance with the ban.

THE SHIP THAT SANK OFF KYRENIA

The high-speed passenger ship named "Filo Jet," operating on the route between the Kyrenia Port in the TRNC and the Tasucu Port in Mersin, began taking on water from its bow shortly after departing from Kyrenia around noon on Sunday, August 30.

While trying to return to Kyrenia Port, the ship capsized; 241 people were rescued, the bodies of 9 people were recovered, and a search operation was initiated for 19 missing people.

It was reported that the wreck of the sunken ship was found at a depth of 550 meters in the sea off the coast of Kyrenia.
