U.S. President Donald Trump, claiming that the Strait of Hormuz is under U.S. control, stated that he might propose renaming it the 'Trump Strait.'

US President Donald Trump made a striking post on his social media account regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

NEW NAME SUGGESTION FOR THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ

Trump, who suggested changing the name of the Strait of Hormuz, said, "Now that we have taken control of this area, should we rename the Strait of Hormuz to the Trump Strait? Just like America itself, this strait would become more popular than ever."

The US President had previously claimed in some statements that the Strait of Hormuz was under the control of the American navy and that it could be considered "US territory."

TRUMP'S PREVIOUS RENAMING ATTEMPTS

When Trump came to the White House in 2025, he signed an executive order changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America."

Mexico rejected this name change, arguing that a single country cannot change the name of an international and shared body of water.

On August 27, Trump also signed a presidential order changing the name of Lake Ontario, located on the border with Canada amid rising trade tensions, to "Lake America."
