While the earthquake storm continues in the Aegean Sea, earthquakes are occurring every 15 minutes. As people wonder how Turkey will be affected by the tremors, Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür issued a warning to "be careful." Görür stated that the fault line is close to Muğla and Aydın, and said, "A tsunami could occur. Because there is a fault that could generate a tsunami."

More than 400 earthquakes with magnitudes between 1.3 and 5 have occurred in the Aegean Sea for a week. While the seismic activity in the region continues, Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür has made striking warnings.

"THERE IS A FAULT THAT COULD CREATE A TSUNAMI"

Pointing out that the activity is close to Muğla and Aydın on the map of the Aegean Sea, Görür said, "If there is a rupture close to here, we will be affected by the earthquake. A tsunami could occur. Because there is a fault that could create a tsunami. Let's be careful!"

"WE COULD EXPERIENCE DESTRUCTION"

In a statement to Hürriyet newspaper, Görür said, "The activity northeast of Santorini Island is far from Istanbul, but closer to Aydın and Muğla." He added, "If there is a large rupture close to Turkey, we could also be affected by the possible earthquake and experience destruction. The formation of a tsunami is also likely. Because there is a fault system here that could create a tsunami."

REACTION TO AUTHORITIES

Görür also emphasized that cities must be created with earthquake awareness; he reacted to the fact that officials from Aydın, Muğla, or surrounding provinces did not call him to communicate about precautions. Görür stated, "In Turkey, the phrase 'we are taking precautions' is empty. If they are taking precautions, it means they are doing it secretly from me and the public. Otherwise, they would have explained to the public, who are concerned about their safety, what precautions they have taken, right?"
