The indictment included statements from the couple's children. Z.Ç., the couple's daughter, who said her father tried to kill her, stated, "My father attacked me at home 1.5 years ago and tried to kill me. I had filed a complaint against him. He had also received a restraining order after this incident. On the day of the incident, when I was having coffee with my mother and brother and we returned home, my father also came. He parked his car in the middle of the road and insulted my mother with words like 'dishonorable, scoundrel' and approached her. When I tried to push him away, he shot my mother with the gun he took from his car."
The couple's son A.E.Ç. stated, "My father constantly used to be violent towards me, my sister, and my mother. We reported him to the police. My mother filed for divorce. Despite this, my father continued to harass us. On the day of the incident, he killed my mother in front of my sister and me."
"MY INTENTION WAS TO SCARE HER" In his interrogation at the police station and the prosecutor's office, Atilla Çetin, who claimed that his estranged wife cheated on him with 2 people and stated that his intention was to scare her, said, "On the day of the incident, when I went to her to talk, I got angry when she insulted me and shot her with the gun I had with me. My intention was not to kill or injure; I just wanted to scare her."
"WE STOOD IN FRONT OF HER SO HE WOULDN'T KILL OUR MOTHER" The trial of Atilla Çetin began at the Bursa 18th High Criminal Court. A.E.Ç. and his sister Z.Ç., who witnessed their father kill their mother, recounted their experiences during the hearing in which they participated as complainants. Both siblings complained about their father, while Z.Ç. stated that after having coffee with her mother and brother on the day of the incident, they noticed that their father was following them on their way home, saying, "When my mother was parking the car, my father, who approached, got out of the car and insulted us with unacceptable words. My mother did not respond and said, 'You are the one, I return it to you.' My brother and I formed a barrier in front of my mother. My father, who was cursing, took the gun from his car and fired 3 shots. While my brother was trying to take the gun from him, I pushed him and made him fall. Then he got in his car and left, saying, 'I cleaned my honor.' He also tried to kill me 1.5 years ago. When I filed a complaint, I had a restraining order issued against him. I am complaining about my father who killed my mother."
A.E.Ç. also stated that he was complaining about his father like his sister, saying, "He fired 3 shots in front of my sister. I tried to take the gun from him, but he didn't give it to me. There was a struggle between us. Then I took the gun. I realized later that my mother had been shot. I informed the medical teams. During this time, I heard my father, who jumped out of the building, shouting, 'I cleaned my honor.' I am complaining about him."
In his statement during the first hearing, the detained defendant, who claimed that he went to his wife's house to show their children the posts she made on social media, stated, "When she insulted and cursed at me, I had a gun with me, and I remember firing 2 shots in anger. Then my daughter pushed me, and I fell to the ground. My son tried to take the gun from me. My intention was not to kill him. We have been in a divorce case for 19 months. During this time, I could have killed her."
The court board decided to continue the defendant's detention and adjourned the hearing.
