Baran Güran, the 8-year-old brother of Narin Güran, whose lifeless body was found 19 days after she went missing in Diyarbakır, was a guest of Bedia Teymur, the Editor-in-Chief of Haberler.com. Güran described in detail for the first time the events of the first day of the search for Narin, how the dogs actually barked first in front of Nevzat Bahtiyar's house, and what happened between the family and Bahtiyar shortly before the murder.
In the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood of Bağlar district, Diyarbakır, 8-year-old Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21, 2024, and whose lifeless body was found 19 days later in the Eğertutmaz Creek, her brother Baran Güran was a guest of Haberler.com Editor-in-Chief Bedia Teymur.
Brother Güran, while responding to allegations about the family, shared details of the search efforts and striking details about Nevzat Bahtiyar for the first time in such depth.
WHAT HAPPENED ON THE DAY NARIN WENT MISSING?
Describing the day Narin disappeared and the search process, Baran Güran said: "Since I am a soldier, I was invited to my uncle's house that day for a soldier's meal. My uncle Kurtuluş. After distributing, I finished my work and wandered around the city a bit. Since I hadn't been in Diyarbakır for a long time, I visited some friends. Then I went to my uncle's house. When I went, to be correct, there was brother İmran. There was brother Berat. My uncle Kurtuluş was probably there. My uncle Kurtuluş had called me. Also, my grandmother was there. We sat down to eat.
Let me put it this way. After eating 4-5 spoonfuls, my brother called me. He said, 'Brother, Narin is missing.' I said, 'What do you mean, Narin is missing? Look around the village, she might have gone to the uncles. She's a child, she's in the village.' When he cried, I realized the seriousness and, let me say, if my uncle's house to the village takes 40 minutes, I made it in 15 minutes, almost 10. I was about to kill myself on the road actually, because I heard the women screaming.
I first went to the mosque area. I entered the village directly. I saw all the villagers gathered. Where is my mom, where are our people, where is Narin? I think they gathered quickly because, as far as I know, my mom was screaming by then. In a village, when someone screams, everyone comes out, and at that moment, everyone came out. I went straight up towards the house. When I went towards the house, my mom was on the ground. 'What happened, what happened, mom?' 'Narin is missing, son, look for her.' We all started searching immediately. Everyone started searching. We thought, near our house there is a slope, God forbid, did she fall from there? We checked those areas, and thankfully, someone had already raised the alarm."
"THE DOGS STARTED BARKING NEAR NEVZAT BAHTİYAR'S HOUSE FIRST"
Then the dogs and police started searching. The dogs came, and the dog actually started barking first near his (Nevzat Bahtiyar's) house. It started barking at the location where she was last seen. But since there were many dogs in the village, they took the dog and said, 'You need to tie up your dogs.' We, all the villagers, tied up all the dogs in the barns. And the dog, for some unknown reason, went to the water channel and started barking. On the same day. It reacted first on the path. When the dogs attacked, were too many, and made noise, the police dogs got scared too.
And the focus completely shifted to the water channel. We inevitably thought, did she enter the channel? We all turned to the channel. Even though the water was high, all my family members jumped into the water. We were searching because after certain points, there are grates. A child can't pass through there. But there were gaps in some places, and there is a place where the water ends. There is a grate there, that's the spot. At that time, the prosecutor's office wrote to DSI, and the water was cut off and directed elsewhere. It was directed to the top of the creek. And when we went to the end, Narin wasn't there either.
"THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED 1-2 MONTHS AFTER WE STOPPED TALKING TO BAHTİYAR OVER MONEY"
Baran Güran answered the question about whether they suspected Nevzat Bahtiyar during the search for Narin: "Now, you might say, 'Why didn't you suspect this man?' Actually, on the second day of the incident, my father mentioned having trouble with him. He said, 'I have a transaction with him.' People can do anything. Unfortunately, recently a teacher killed a man for 500 TL. Just for 500 TL.
We weren't talking. (With Nevzat Bahtiyar) We weren't talking already. After we stopped talking over money, about 1-2 months passed, and then this incident happened. Let me tell you, everyone there (Nevzat Bahtiyar) comes in the evening and sits next to my father. 'She'll be found, she'll be found.' He jumps into the water, breaks people's doors. How can you suspect him? How can you suspect this person? He is the coldest-blooded person you will ever see. Truly. Let me put it this way, in the courtroom, my mom starts talking, we are crying. We were tearing ourselves apart there, the man is completely silent, no one, they say 'Even a stone would explode.'
Let me describe his composure: after burying Narin there, he says, 'I drank two large glasses of tea.' He says, 'I ate bread and cheese.' You just buried an 8-year-old girl. How could you eat, how could you drink? Think about that composure.
Our relationship is just this. His house is just downhill. My father isn't very social with the villagers. Just hellos. My father usually went to the shop. He didn't come to the village much, to the center. They always went with my mom to Batman and such, because my uncles are there. The man acted like nothing happened. As if he hadn't just buried an 8-year-old girl, that's how calm he was. No tears, no remorse... Even though in his statement he didn't say 'I am sorry,' it appears as 'I am sorry.' He doesn't care about anything."
"NEVZAT BAHTİYAR'S CHILD AND MOTHER'S STATEMENTS WERE NOT TAKEN"
Stating that Nevzat Bahtiyar's child and mother's statements were not taken, Baran Güran continued: "While the incident was still fresh, they were going to weddings. Now, they go to weddings, enjoying themselves. Unfortunately, his family's statements were not taken properly. Even one of his children and mother's statements were not taken. There is no statement from the daughter-in-law at home or in the village. None of their statements were taken properly. For example, one of his brothers says, 'Nevzat wasn't in the village at all that day.' This man was released again as if nothing happened. None of his family members were pressured or questioned. My family members were in custody for 6 days. There was nothing like that. Their statements were taken in an hour, and they were all released."
