The detection of two critical security vulnerabilities in the PHP programming language, widely used in internet infrastructure, caused alarm worldwide. While some public institutions in Europe shut down their websites as a precaution, in Turkey the Cybersecurity Directorate launched a national-scale security scan. Urgent warnings were sent to public institutions and private sector organizations, requesting that systems be updated and necessary measures taken.
Countries have begun taking successive measures due to security vulnerabilities that could affect websites and IT infrastructures worldwide. In Turkey, the Cybersecurity Directorate also took action and warned institutions against possible cyber attacks.
NATIONAL-SCALE SECURITY SCANS INITIATED
The Cybersecurity Directorate has launched security scans across the country to detect cyber threats early and prevent possible damage.
An urgent security notice was sent to public institutions, private sector organizations, and those responsible for critical infrastructures via the Cyber Incident Response Teams (SOME) Communication Platform.
The notice included the technical and administrative measures that must be implemented to protect IT systems.
CRITICAL SECURITY CALL TO INSTITUTIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS
The Directorate called for internet-facing IT systems to be checked without delay and for published security updates to be applied.
System administrators were specifically asked to keep software up to date, reduce unauthorized access risks, and limit unnecessary external connections.
It was emphasized that introducing additional security measures for services carrying risk is also important.
CYBERSECURITY ALARM AROUND THE WORLD
Behind the measures taken globally are two critical security vulnerabilities reported to have been identified in the PHP programming language used in the infrastructure of many websites.
Cybersecurity agencies in the US, the European Union, the UK, Japan, and Australia called on website administrators to install security updates without delay.
GOVERNMENT SITES SHUT DOWN IN EUROPE
It was reported that preventive measures were also taken in Europe against the security vulnerabilities.
It was conveyed that the websites of many public institutions in countries including France, the Netherlands, Germany, Finland, and Belgium were temporarily closed to access against possible attacks.
It was stated that these measures were implemented to prevent the exploitation of security vulnerabilities and protect public IT systems.
