The death toll from the floods following the overflow of the Bhotekoshi River on the Nepal-China border has risen to 359. The toll of the flood disaster on the Nepal-China border is worsening. In a statement from Nepali police, it was reported that the number of deaths from the flood following the overflow of the Bhotekoshi River has risen to 359.
910 PEOPLE MISSING In a statement from Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, it was stated that a total of 910 people are missing and cannot be reached. It was reported that this number includes 517 foreign tourists, 44 personnel from the Nepali army, and 28 officers from the Nepali police. Search and rescue efforts continue with the participation of 2,000 military personnel from the Nepali army and 3,318 police officers.
PRIME MINISTER INSPECTED THE DISASTER ZONE Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah visited some of the areas most affected by the flood disaster, including Bidur in the Nuwakot district and surrounding settlements. During the visit, he met with officials, security forces, and community representatives to assess the extent of the damage and discuss response efforts. It was reported that Prime Minister Shah instructed officials to provide urgent support to families affected by the flood, reopen closed roads, and repair damaged infrastructure as soon as possible. After inspecting the settlements, Shah returned to the capital, Kathmandu.
After his inspection in the Bidur region, Shah held a high-level meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Shah gave instructions on accelerating rescue operations in flood-affected areas, providing free and effective treatment to the injured, and delivering aid supplies to displaced families immediately. Shah particularly emphasized that aid camps established for displaced people should be orderly and clean, and requested that women, children, and the elderly be given the necessary priority in the camps.
"NOT AN EARTHQUAKE, BUT A GLACIAL COLLAPSE CAUSED THE DISASTER" In a statement from the United States Geological Survey, it was stated that the flood was caused not by an earthquake, but by a "glacial collapse and debris flow," and that this situation led to "catastrophic effects in the downstream basin." The statement said, "Additional analyses of nearby seismic stations, long-period seismic waves, and satellite imagery have enabled us to determine that the event was actually a glacial collapse and debris flow, and that no earthquake occurred."
3 DEATHS AND 558 MISSING IN CHINA In Gyirong, in the Tibet Autonomous Region on China's border with Nepal, 3 people lost their lives as a result of a landslide, and 558 people, 260 of whom were foreign nationals, went missing.
