WHAT IS THE WESTERN WALL?

The Western Wall is a place of worship considered sacred in Judaism. It is located in the Old City area of Jerusalem. Primarily, it is one of the outer support walls of the Beit HaMikdash (Second Temple), which was expanded by King Herod in the 1st century BC. This temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD, and only this western wall remains to this day. Jews pray in front of this wall, weep, and write their prayers to place them between the stones of the wall. Because of this tradition, it is called the "Western Wall." According to Jewish belief, God's holiness continues at this point.
