In Israel, the coalition government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has triggered the dissolution of the parliament amid a growing political crisis and internal coalition disputes. If the bill submitted to the parliament is approved, the country will enter an early election process, seen as one of the most critical political tests since the Gaza war.

The long-standing government crisis in Israel has entered a new phase. The far-right coalition led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu submitted a bill to parliament proposing the dissolution of the Israeli Knesset. If the bill is passed, the country will enter an early election process within five months at the latest.

COALITION PARTNERS SUPPORT THE BILL

According to reports in the Israeli press, the proposal to dissolve the Knesset was submitted on behalf of the coalition by Ofir Katz, head of the Knesset Coalition Group. It was stated that the United Torah Judaism, Shas, Religious Zionism, Jewish Strength, and New Hope parties supported the bill.

If the bill becomes law, early elections will be held in Israel within five months, with a minimum period of three months.

MILITARY EXEMPTION AT THE HEART OF THE CRISIS

It is stated that one of the main causes of the government crisis is the disagreement over military exemption for ultra-Orthodox Jews. The ultra-Orthodox Degel HaTorah Party called for early elections, arguing that the government has not taken sufficient steps regarding a regulation that would exempt Yeshiva students from compulsory military service.

During this process, it is assessed that Netanyahu's government faces the risk of losing the support of ultra-Orthodox parties.

SUPPORT ALSO COMES FROM THE OPPOSITION

It is noted that opposition parties are also preparing to support the idea of dissolving the Knesset. It was reported that the Israel Our Home Party led by Avigdor Liberman and the political group forming around former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett are making similar preparations.

In analyses in the Israeli media, it is commented that the possibility of early elections has now moved beyond being merely a political scenario and has turned into a concrete process.

PRELIMINARY VOTE MAY BE HELD ON MAY 18

It was stated that the preliminary vote on the proposal to dissolve the Knesset could be held as early as May 18. After the process, the election calendar and the government's roadmap are expected to become clear.

According to experts, the decision for early elections could mark the beginning of a critical period that will directly affect the political atmosphere formed after the Gaza war and Netanyahu's leadership.
