Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlined his conditions for an agreement with Syria. While expressing the desire for disarmament in southern Syria and around Damascus, Netanyahu also emphasized that the Israeli army would continue to remain in certain areas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed the condition of disarming the area starting from the capital Damascus to the southern buffer zone for an agreement with Syria.

According to a written statement from the Prime Minister's Press Office, Netanyahu visited the soldiers injured in the clash during the Israeli army's raid on the town of Beit Jin in southern Syria on November 28 at the hospital where they were staying.

"IT IS POSSIBLE TO REACH AN AGREEMENT WITH SYRIANS"

Netanyahu stated that "it is possible to reach an agreement with the Syrians with goodwill and understanding," but argued that they are "determined to maintain their principles."

"WE WILL CONTINUE TO STAY IN THE AREAS WE OCCUPY"

Netanyahu, who conditioned the disarmament of the areas from Damascus to the southern buffer zone, including the surroundings and summit of Mount Hermon (Jebel al-Sheikh) occupied by Israel, said that the Israeli army will continue to stay in the regions it occupies in Syria following the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime.

Netanyahu's remarks about an agreement with Syria came after U.S. President Donald Trump's call for Israel to "maintain a strong and genuine dialogue with Syria."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Although negotiations were held for a new security agreement to be signed between Israel and Syria under U.S. mediation, no results were achieved.
