An indictment has been prepared regarding the murder of Mehmet Akgül, who was shot dead in his truck in İzmir. The statements of the defendants and their WhatsApp conversations are also included in the indictment.

A new development has emerged regarding the chilling forbidden love murder that took place in İzmir last April. The investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been completed. An indictment has been prepared against Anıl Akgül (44), the wife of Mehmet Akgül (49), who was murdered in his van, seeking aggravated life imprisonment. The indictment also includes Rojhat Kızılban (36), with whom Akgül had an affair, and Gültekin Uslu (46), who is alleged to be the hitman, also seeking life imprisonment.

The incident occurred on April 10th in the Postacılar neighborhood of the Bayraklı district. On the first day of Ramadan, around 07:00, Mehmet Akgül, who was engaged in shoe wholesale and construction, was found motionless in his van, covered in blood. It was determined that the left window of the vehicle was broken and he had been shot in the head. Akgül, who was married and a father of one, could not be saved at the private hospital he was taken to by ambulance. It was reported that Akgül, who had 10 siblings, 4 of whom were girls, had siblings who had been working in England for 33 years and sent their earnings to him in Turkey. It was learned that Mehmet Akgül was engaged in shoe production and construction in Turkey with his savings, and allegedly informed his wife that he would divorce her 20 days before the incident upon learning that he was being cheated on.

CONFESSED TO THE MURDER

As part of the initiated investigation, the police determined that Mehmet Akgül was killed on the street where his shop and home were located. Teams that watched dozens of hours of footage from more than 30 security cameras in the area established that Akgül entered the neighborhood in his van around 05:00. From the footage between Akgül's entry into the neighborhood and the time he was found at the crime scene, attention was focused on Rojhat Kızılban and Gültekin Uslu, who were in a car that entered the neighborhood, and the two suspects were detained. Anıl Akgül, who exhibited contradictory behavior, was also taken into custody. While Kızılban and Uslu denied the accusations at the police station, Anıl Akgül confessed to the murder.

CORRESPONDENCE REVEALED

The statements of the suspects were also included in the indictment. Anıl Akgül stated, "My husband was not taking good care of me and our child. A friend introduced me to Rojhat 7 years ago. Rojhat talked about killing Mehmet and sent messages. I did not accept this. Rojhat introduced me to Gültekin. The day before the incident, Rojhat wrote on WhatsApp, 'I am already having him followed by Gültekin, we are on watch tonight.' I did not respond to this. I was not aware that Gültekin would kill Mehmet," it was noted.

"WITH THE INTENTION OF MAKING A JOKE."

Suspect Kızılban stated, "On the day of the incident, I went out with Gültekin in a car. We parked the car by the roadside. Gültekin got out of the car and left. I slept until morning," in the indictment. Suspect Gültekin Uslu stated in his testimony, "After Rojhat parked the car, I got out. I was drunk. I continued to drink after getting out of the car. When I went to the place where the victim was, Mehmet was alive. With the intention of making a joke, I hit the gun I was carrying against the window of the car Mehmet was in. Then I left. After a while, I heard a gunshot," it was noted.

REFERRED TO AS "MY HUSBAND" BY HIS GIRLFRIEND

It was stated that five days before the incident, Anıl Akgül wrote in a WhatsApp conversation with Kızılban, "You call your lawyer and get clear information. Depending on when the money is deposited into the account, I will hire a detective. I don't want to be in the same environment as that b****. I need to get what is mine, to avoid being in a wrong position while being right. There is no other alternative," to which Kızılban replied, "My Soul, I always say you are right until the end. I am the only guilty one here. I messed up your mind and life. I swear I did my best, I am doing it, but stay there until Monday. It will break from where it is thin. Delete everything that belongs to me and us from your phone, my soul," was also included in the indictment.

"HANDLE THIS JOB, THE REST IS WITH YOUR BROTHER"

In a deleted WhatsApp conversation between Rojhat Kızılban and Gültekin Uslu, it was included in the indictment that Kızılban wrote, "Where were you, for God's sake? Don't run to useless things, wait for your brother to handle the business. Then do as you please," to which Gültekin replied, "My word is my bond, no matter the cost." In the continuation of the conversation, Kızılban said, "Thank you, my brother. My word is also to you. Handle this job, the rest is with your brother," and it was also noted that they discussed a 7.65 mm caliber pistol.

AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT SOUGHT

In light of the statements taken and the evidence collected, aggravated life imprisonment was requested for Anıl Akgül for the crime of "intentional murder against a spouse."

Gültekin Uslu and Rojhat Kızılban are facing separate life sentences for the crime of 'intentional murder', and up to 3 years in prison for the crime of 'purchasing, carrying, or possessing firearms and ammunition without a license.'

"WE WANT THE HARSHEST PUNISHMENT TO BE GIVEN"

Hasan Akgül (54), the brother of Mehmet Akgül, who wants the defendants to receive the harshest punishment, stated, "They killed my brother to seize our property. My brother was a good person. He was dedicated to his work. At least 130 apartments were registered in my brother's name. All our lands were also in my brother's name. The entire family's assets were in my brother's name. We were working abroad and making our investments in Turkey. They formed a network among themselves and distributed the assets. We were shocked when we heard about the incident. They had planned to seize all the property. After killing my brother, they thought the property would be left to us, and they could get married in 3-5 years. An indictment has been prepared. They requested aggravated life sentences. We want the judiciary to give them the harshest punishment. We hope for a landmark decision so that no one does such a thing again. Thank you to the Homicide Bureau, which solved the case in a short time. May God bless our police. Now the case is in court. Hopefully, they will receive the punishment they deserve," he said. Ahmet Akgül (48), the cousin of the murdered Akgül, also expressed their trust in justice.
