North Korea confirmed for the first time that it has sent troops to Russia to fight against Ukraine, stating, "Our armed forces have made a significant contribution to the destruction of the neo-Nazi Ukrainian forces and the liberation of Russian territories."
The North Korean government officially confirmed for the first time that it has sent troops to Russia to fight against Ukraine. In a statement from the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, it was reported that troop deployments to Russia were made under the signed Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.
The statement noted that North Korean soldiers have shown heroic successes in the Kursk region, stating, "The operation to liberate the Kursk region, aimed at repelling Ukraine's adventurous invasion by Russia, has resulted in victory. Our armed forces have fully demonstrated their high fighting spirit and military temperament, showcasing a unique spirit of heroism, courage, and sacrifice. Our armed forces have made significant contributions to the destruction of the Neo-Nazi Ukrainian forces and the liberation of Russian territories."
"OUR SOLDIERS HAVE WRITTEN HEROIC STORIES"
The statement emphasized that the decision to send troops to Russia was made personally by the country's leader, Kim Jong-Un, stating, "Our soldiers, who see Russian territories as part of their own country, have proven the strength of the alliance between North Korea and Russia and have written legendary military heroic stories through their sacrifices." It was highlighted that North Korea's military support to Russia marks a turning point in bilateral relations, and the statement concluded, "The Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea sincerely congratulates all soldiers who participated in the operations to liberate the Kursk region and who have achieved immortal successes that will be inscribed in gold letters in the history of North Korea-Russia relations."
The North Korean government expressed its honor in forming an alliance with a powerful state like Russia, stating, "We are pleased to further strengthen the military ties between North Korea and Russia and to contribute to Russia's special military operations."
"IN ACCORDANCE WITH INTERNATIONAL LAW PROVISIONS"
The statement claimed that North Korea's sending of troops to Russia is in accordance with all international legal rules, stating, "The activities carried out by our army within Russian territories under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed between the two countries are in compliance with all international legal provisions, including United Nations rules."
NORTH KOREA HAD SENT TROOPS TO RUSSIA'S KURSK REGION
North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Pyongyang last June to sign the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement. Putin stated that the agreement also includes "mutual assistance in the event of an external attack against one of the parties," and added, "Russia does not overlook military-technical cooperation with North Korea under this signed agreement." Following these developments, it was revealed that North Korea had sent troops to Russia. Although it was stated that North Korean soldiers were fighting against Ukraine in Russia's Kursk region and suffered heavy losses, North Korea had not officially confirmed the troop deployment.
