As part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 10 social media influencers have been detained on the grounds that they opened virtual chests under the guise of digital games on a site called 'key drop' on social media and encouraged gambling by providing unfair profits.

As part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Cyber Crimes Investigation Bureau, it was alleged that during virtual patrol activities carried out by the Cyber Crime Department, some high-profile influencers with a large number of followers opened virtual cases on a site called 'key drop' under the guise of digital games during their broadcasts on social media applications such as 'Twitch, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok', converting the items they won in the game into money, thereby encouraging gambling and gaining unfair profits.

10 INFLUENCERS ARRESTED

Simultaneous operations were carried out against 19 suspects as part of the investigation. As a result of the operation, 10 suspects were arrested and taken into custody. It was also learned that 5 suspects were abroad, 2 suspects were out of the city, and 1 suspect was in a fugitive status. On the other hand, it was learned that 1 suspect would come to the courthouse.

WHAT IS KEYDROP?

KeyDrop is an online platform where users can open cases to win random in-game items (especially CS2 - Counter-Strike 2 weapon skins). The site offers players the opportunity to open virtual cases for a certain fee and add or trade the items that come out of them to their inventory. Key-drop and similar sites are criticized for allegedly introducing children to gambling.

KeyDrop was blocked by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) in 2023. The access restriction decision was lifted shortly after.
